Description
The Lonaconing Silk Mill, Klots Throwing Company, was built in 1905 in a strategic location along the Cumberland & Pennsylvania Railroad’s mainline and near coal country. Following a wage dispute, the company shut down the mill in 1957. Its current contents with the machinery, company records and workers personal effects is the same as on the day it was shut down. The present owner, Herb Crawford, solicited state and community support to preserve the mill and create a museum but without much luck. In the meantime, the building continues to deteriorate.
